Sugar-rush...

Steve's Thursday eats

Breakfast: Porridge (banana, honey, raisins, yoghurt)

Snacks: Banana, crackers, rice cakes

Lunch: Pasta w/veggies & tomato & cheese

Snack: Sugary yoghurt, egg, orange, apple, more crackers, mini pretzels

Dinner: More pasta!

Post dinner: Bread & mozarella, yoghurt & raisins, orange

Essentially, boring.

I ate a yoghurt. It had added sugar. It was divine. My body woke up, sniffing blood like a wolf. I got a bit high. It was a harsh reminder of the strength of this sugar addiction- after 30 days of being almost completely refined-sugar free, my bodies reaction made it clear:
I wasn't over it.
I never will be.
There's just 16 days to go.
Next week, I will fail the challenge.
It's my birthday. There will be a cake. I will eat it.
I'm going to Paris. There will be sunday morning pastries and good wine. I will eat and drink them.

What song comes into your head when I say "that's just the way it is"?

A lick of a spoon...

The revelation that Monika won't be with us for the end of Lent is a hard one to take.
No joint celebration.
No last few days of excitement.
No final gorge.
We will miss her presence at the cake and beer party I'm planning...

While she was fancying herself in the capital of love, Steve here was being selfless.
Right now, steaming away in the oven, is a delicious lemon drizzle cake.
I made it.
It's not for me, but a thankyou to the kind souls who've put up with me living with them for the past month.

I must admit, I licked the spoon of the creamy lemony raw eggy sugary mixture. Twice. It was darn good.

That reminded me of what I was missing. But for even more of a reminder, at the traffic lights today I caught sight of a woman, glancing ever so briefly at her boyfriend, while tucking into some sort of sweet pastry delight. She looked at him and made that eye-rolling, oh-my-god-this-is -delicious-I-might-actually-orgasm kind of face. The kind of face that can only come from eating such a sweet delight.
It made me realise how long its been since I made such a face.

Roll on 24th April.

Steve's Sunday eats...

This doesn't appear like much for a Steven appetite. But I got out of bed at 1pm. So really it's just half a days eating... Dylan and I went for a nice cycle down the Rhine. Only it rained all the way, and I don't have mudguards. My stuff is covered in mud.

Porridge w/ apple, banana, raisin, yoghurt, honey
Lots of raisins
3 slices of bread & tahini, 2 crackers
Pasta w/tomato & feta & spinach & onion & courgette & raisins & sunflower seeds & lettuce
Yoghurt and raisins and honey. Of course.
On reflection, today was a raisin day.

Paris pass

I just wanted to tell you a little story..

I was out for a walk with my brother this morning* to buy a gift for a friend. I had the idea of a nice box of macarons (a very yummy, tasty, mmmmm of a French treat. My brother suggested we get one each for ourselves, dessert after lunch... What did I do?.....

I bought one for him and said I'd PASS because I can't!! I'm on lent and my colleagues would not be happy.

He laughed and later enjoyed his salty caramel macaron (only my favorite flavor!!. No biggie).

*my brother emailed me last night saying he got a random flight deal to Paris and he'd be arriving in the morning! Crazy. So we reunited. Hadn't seen him in years.

Lots of love from the city of luuuurve.
